Massage Therapy w/ Matrix Repatterning

For the purposes of this page, Matrix Repatterning refers to manual techniques that may be incorporated into Massage Therapy sessions when clinically appropriate and within the scope of practice of Massage Therapy, as defined by the Massage Therapy Act, 1991 and the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).

All services described on this page are provided as Massage Therapy. Any techniques used are selected based on assessment, informed consent, and professional judgment, and do not include the use of tools or methods outside the Massage Therapy scope of practice.

What to Expect in a Session

Matrix Repatterning sessions are gentle and precise. Treatment may be performed over clothing or directly on the skin, depending on the techniques used and your comfort level.

During treatment, the practitioner uses clinical assessment, palpation, and movement observation to explore how different areas of the body may be contributing to your symptoms. In some cases, the area where pain is felt may not be the only area influencing the discomfort. For example, shoulder tension may be associated with compensatory patterns elsewhere in the body, such as the hips or lower extremities.

Treatment focuses on applying gentle, sustained manual pressure to areas identified through assessment, with the goal of supporting improved movement patterns, reduced protective tension, and a more balanced pain response.

All techniques used are selected based on informed consent and are within the scope of practice of Massage Therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are new to Matrix Repatterning, it is natural to have questions about what to expect and whether this approach may be right for you. Below you will find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about Matrix Repatterning.

If you have additional questions or would like to discuss your individual needs, please feel free to contact the clinic.

Matrix Repatterning is a gentle, hands-on form of treatment over the clothes. It focuses on how different areas of the body work together and how tension or strain in one area can affect movement or comfort elsewhere.

During a session, the therapist uses touch and simple movement checks to look for areas of tightness or restriction. Gentle, specific pressure is then applied to help the body relax, move more freely, and reduce ongoing tension or discomfort.

Massage Therapy treatments with Matrix Repatterning techniques may be suitable for children, adults, and older adults, depending on individual needs and clinical assessment. The gentle nature of this approach can make it appropriate for people who prefer lighter pressure or who are working with past or ongoing injuries.

Care is always adapted based on health history, comfort level, and informed consent. For pregnant clients, treatment is provided with appropriate modifications and within Massage Therapy scope of practice.

Your session will begin with a conversation about your health history, current concerns, and goals for treatment. The therapist may observe posture and movement and use gentle touch to assess areas of tension or restriction in the muscles and joints.

Treatment is gentle and focused. Light, specific pressure is applied to selected areas to help reduce tension and support easier movement. Sessions may be performed over clothing or directly on the skin, depending on the techniques used and your comfort level.

Some clients notice changes immediately, while others feel gradual improvements over time. It is also normal to experience temporary soreness, fatigue, or changes in sensation for a short period after treatment as the body adapts. Your therapist will discuss what to expect and how to support your body following your session.

The number of sessions needed varies from person to person. Your first appointment typically includes an assessment and may include a small amount of treatment, depending on your comfort level and clinical findings.

Some clients choose to book a short series of follow-up sessions to allow time for the body to respond and adapt. While many people notice changes within a few visits, others may benefit from additional sessions over time, especially when working with long-standing tension or recurring discomfort.

Your therapist will regularly review your progress and adjust the treatment plan based on your response and goals.

Many people feel more relaxed, lighter, or looser following a session. Others notice gradual changes in comfort or movement over the next day or two. Because everyone responds differently, experiences can vary.

It is also normal to feel mild soreness, fatigue, or temporary changes in sensation after treatment. These responses are usually short-lived and part of the body adjusting to hands-on work.

We recommend giving yourself time to rest after your session, staying well hydrated, and paying attention to how your body feels. Your therapist will discuss any self-care suggestions that may help support your comfort following treatment.

Your first appointment is focused on getting to know you and understanding your goals for treatment. Time will be spent reviewing your health history, past or current injuries, and any areas of concern. A gentle assessment and, when appropriate, some hands-on treatment may be included during this visit.

Matrix Repatterning is typically performed with the client fully clothed. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended to allow ease of movement and assessment.

Some clients choose to book a few follow-up sessions to allow time to notice how their body responds. There is no obligation to continue with pre-booked appointments, and sessions can be adjusted or cancelled if this approach does not feel like the right fit for you.

Your therapist will work with you to determine a plan that aligns with your needs, comfort level, and availability.
